Iteration in Research Topics

We had a long discussion and struggled with topics and stories before our final plans. It was hard to receive a unanimous agreement.

Our initial consensus was to create visually interesting effects via simulating hand-painted brush.

Regarding non-linear storytelling, we brainstormed various proposals from multi-perspective and discussed some interactions related to portals.

Initial Proposals
Iteration in real places

We were thinking of developing our experience based on a real place using the Geolocation technique. I feel it is challenging for me, but I am happy to learn new stuff.

My proposals

I tended to develop the storytelling pattern first and then fill in our story.

Storytelling Pattern A on Parallel universe
Storytelling Pattern B on Portal
Storytelling Pattern C on Portal

#1

Mystery based, view switch

One fact told fro different views/angles

Key point – portal interaction, view gameplay, stylish environment

  1. A portal represents a view – piece together clues to restore the truth according to different views (views can be from people, things, animals)
  2. The story of a place is reflected in different eras, e.g. the same location in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries has different styles and different items that provide different clues.

#2

Different experiences based on the same place

Key Points: gameplay mechanics for portals, and the stylistic design of the interior environment within the portals.

#3

Virtual environment experience, e.g. Atlantis/giant tree, with different routines experienced through different views.

For example, octopus – assassin, turtle – guardian, clownfish – tourist.

My Story Outline
One of my stories
Mostafa & Lexi’s story

We had a tutorial with Klauz, and each of us has some ideas to present during the tutorial. He helped us clarify our ideas and explore the potential of VR and AR development from a narrative perspective. Moreover, he pointed out some issues with my stories, which was inspiring.

Finally, we confirmed our final plan, which is the stories about people who were buried in the Highgate cemetery.
